Messy Play Sessions
At Whoosh, we believe that children learn best when they are exploring and having fun! We aim to provide an environment where children have the freedom to express themselves in a safe environment whilst embracing the messiness of creative play that children need.
Whoosh messy play sessions offer a great opportunity for you to engage and develop a playful relationship with your child aswell as meet other parents, make friends and share experiences.
Ultimately, Whoosh aims to provide the right environment for your child to thrive and where everything feels safe, exciting and accessible. Once this happens, watch out because WHOOSH … they’re off, ready to explore and grow in their world.
How are the sessions structured?
30 minutes – free exploration of the theme – let your child take the lead
10 minutes – Circle Time – teacher led
10 minutes – further creative play, snack time (including parents) then tidy up together!
10 minutes – Music and Movement circle time – teacher led
What do you do when you come to a Whoosh session?
As soon as you arrive, you and your child can explore the different activity stations at your own pace. Look out for our activity cards displayed next to each station, feel free to ask us questions but, above all, just get stuck in!
Clothing
All of our sessions include some sort of messy play. Some activities may use coloured water which can stain clothing or skin for a short period and other activities are likely to include glue or paint! You will want to come prepared for fun and mess!
We suggest coming to Whoosh sessions in old clothes or dressed in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty (both child and parent!). Alternatively we do have aprons for children available around the room at each session for you to use. In addition, wet wipes and bowls of water to wash hands are available during the session.
How will the activities be planned?
The activities will be planned around a theme each week. These themes might include Under the Sea, Dinosaurs or a topical event such as Halloween, Easter or Diwali. Check out the Whoosh curriculum/ themes for further information. If your child has particular interests then please let us know… we are always looking for ways to evolve and grow.
Drinks and Snacks
Please bring a snack for you and your child to enjoy during story time. If you are bringing a hot drink, please ensure it is kept out of reach from little hands and that it has a secure lid.
Dietary and allergies notes:
As part of the messy play sessions, we use a range of items for children to touch and play with including lentils, soil, seeds, playdough, cereals, oats and foam. No week is the same and the resources we use adapt from session to session. Please do get in contact if you want to discuss this further with a member of the Whoosh team.
In addition, parents bring snacks for their child to have at sessions. Please consider snacks that do not have a nut or egg ingredient in them as this can trigger air born allergies. Thank you.
What are the activity cards for?
The activity cards provide prompts on how you might like to use the activity and ways in which to enrich your child’s learning experience.
How do I book?
All our sessions are pre-booked on a termly basis. By booking termly in advance it means you get an excellent rate per class. If you cannot attend one week, we will do our best to fit you into a session in another location for that week. Please get in contact to discuss this further.
